The Temple Trail Race route has been designed to offer a diverse mix of trails from the most stunning stretch of the Thames Path to the hidden wooded valleys of the Chiltern Hills. You will believe you are in the Forest of Dean rather than 45 minutes from central London!
From the race start line in the Market Square outside our race HQ at Henley Town Hall, the race runs through the town to Henley Bridge before joining the Thames Path. Don’t be fooled by the gentle start, shortly after support station one (10K) at Hurley Lock the route climbs into the Chiltern Hills and over the course of the next 25 miles there is an elevation gain of 2800ft.
The route drops into beautiful small villages approximately every 10K where you will find Village Halls stocked with everything you need to keep you going.
There is a mix of wide well used tracks and single-track woodland trails after leaving the river. Finally, the approach back to Henley uses the Oxfordshire Way and a short stretch through the town before arriving back in the Market Place and the sanctuary of the Town Hall. There will be minor changes to this route, a final updated route will be published in the New Year.
